Just made a huge upgrade (from a promaster 70-300) and purchased the Canon 70-200 f2.8 L II lens. I'm super excited about it but I immediately begin looking for weaknesses. Could I get some feedback on how well this would perform with a 1.4 or 2.0 extender? I shoot a lot of my kids soccer games and I suspect that even with less reach and more cropping as a result I will get better images, but I was hoping someone could tell me whether the extender is worth the investment.
Thanks! |

Whilst I don't use my 70-200 MkII with an extender, I did do some tests when I got it and optically it performs quite well with the 2x.....much better than the 70-200 MkI did.
The big hit you'll take is the focus speed....pretty desperate with the 2x and can be described as acceptable with the 1.4x but field sports are going to be a challenge. Bob |

If you are going to get a telex, spend the money and get the latest ones from Canon to keep the IQ high. Don't compromise the quality of that great lens you now have.
