I am thinking about buying a Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC, just curious if anyone has one or if anyone has tried it. Thinking about replacing my 18-55 and 55-250 kit lenses with that. Thoughts?

You`ll gain some convenience,a bit of camera weight and distortion. You`ll also lose some sharpness, contrast, light(aperture) at the long end and some bag weight.
So the question you should ask yourself... Is the convenience of a single lens worth some optical drawbacks? If yes, go for it, if no, don`t. |

So the kit lenses are better optically?

Mine is much better - the Canon 24-105 F4 IS L both optically and mechanically.
Even my Canon 17-85 is probably better, however I havn't used it for quite a while and my photography skills have improved. I don''t own the Tamron 18-270 but I do own the Tamron 18-250 and it is an ok one lens solution if you have to travel light, and do not know what to expect (that is the only time I use it). Be prepared to do a fair bit of sharpening when PPing.

The more focal lengths you cover, the less likely you'll be doing it well. The 18-55 and 55-250 each only cover a small subset of focal lengths, but the 18-270 covers a large collection of focal lengths.
