Default Best Non-Wrinkling Material for Backdrops?

As of now, I have been using fleece blankets and flat sheets for backdrops. They work out okay, but I am having trouble keeping them wrinkle free. And yeah....I don't iron. Don't own one, don't plan on buying one. If I am doing work at my house, I throw them in the dryer with some wrinkle release, but this does not work out so well when I have to pack my stuff up and go somewhere. It's been working out okay, but it makes for a lot of photoshop work for me to remove wrinkles and color variances on the backdrops.
What I am looking for is a white and a black backdrop that is durable and does not wrinkle...at least not much. I just want something that will last and that I won't want to burn or run over with the car after a few uses....kwim? I am okay with spending the money to get something good. What do you recommend?

Also....does anybody have experience with all of these fancy scmancy faux finish backdrops that are for sale all over the net? Like fake wood floors, or fake barn wall, or whatever? What can you tell me about those? Are they worth the money? Are they durable? Do they require a lot of upkeep such as laundering or de-wrinkling?

FYI, I did search for an answer to my question in the forums, but all I could find was info on backdrop stands as well as info on the cheapest types of backdrops......not what I was looking for.

Thanks so much!

what about paper?...maybe some sort of steamer can be used if you don't want to iron

Polyester blend materials like peachskin: Search Products - Denver Fabrics

The old standby muslin.

Ironing is a difficult solution. Try using a steamer instead. While I do iron (even bed sheets, well the parts that show) I use a steamer more often. Never travel without one.

You can also hang the material in the shower, turn on hot water to steam or spritz with water while hanging in place.

With white, you can blow out the background. Gaussian blur is good too.

Hi Everyone,
I'm working on the cheap and found that large table cloths work well.

Like these: Rectangular Tablecloths - Tablecloths - For Your Tables - LinenTablecloth

I have a black one and white one of the longest length, it can be draped over a chair or stool for different effects, Using shower curtain clips I can hang both at the same time to my back-drop frame and pull one or the other behind my subject.

Besides wrinkle free, they are nicely weighted.

Good luck
Pam

Default Thank you for the table cloth link and tip

I've just ordered several different colors and will have them Wednesday. I can't wait! I'm so excited to see what I can do with them!

This is great! The table cloths are just right for what I've been looking for. I was torn against getting paper or cloth- paper is costly to ship and the fabric at Joann's was not going to be seamless as they only come in 45 in width (plus they're pretty expensive, too). I'm going to spurge on a couple of different colors- you'd be crazy not to for that price! Thanks, Pam!

Hey you're welcome!! I'm glad this worked for someone else too! I still might want to use some others and am still getting the hang of the studio shooting... but the table cloths were a great way to get set up.

Enjoy!
