Default How do you carry your tripod around?

I am shopping for a proper bag for my new dslr and I know that it would be great to be able to easily carry my tripod with me. Do they make bags that have some sort of external strap or hook or ?? for attaching your tripod?

We are returning to New Orleans this March for Mardi Gras and I'm excited about taking some pics with my big girl camera. I want to be able to carry my tripod as we walk around without it being to cumbersome so strapped on my back with a bag seems the way to accomplish this.

any suggestions or feedback would be great!

Hi,

I use ThinkTankPhoto bags exclusively... (I have a few)

With my roller, it has straps that attach it to the side (like this)
Think Tank Photo | Airport TakeOff & Urban Disguise 60

and with my backpack, it has the same, straps that attach the tripod to the side... (I don't have a pic handy)

If you spend $50 or more (USA ONLY SORRY) via this link, as a dPS member, you get a free extra bag on check out.

Hope this helps.

My newest bag has loops on both sides and a tripod mount on the back. Very handy for tripods, but most often used for light stands and umbrellas/softboxes

Default carrying tripods.

If you are not hand carrying it and do not want to haul a back pack or tripod bag slung over you shoulder. The next option I use much more when hiking or sightseeing, less cumbersome and gives almost instant access to your tripod the Op Teck tripod stap. I started a thread on buying a camera backpack last month. inkista sent me this link, which gives reviews on a lot of bags - Reviews - Cambags.com Camera Bag Resource.

From what I have found, most of the bags that mount the tripod in the middle of the back of the pack are geared for compact tripods or the tripod tends to get in the way if you're trying to get into the main compartments when the tripod is still attached. So, I started focusing more on the ones that allow you to carry the tripod on the side of the pack like Sime's example.

I don't know if you're looking for a backpack, slingpack, messenger bag, etc., so I can't give you any specific recommendations.

Default Make a tripod carry bag

My full-size tripod (older model) is sort of heavy and definitely not meant to be carried with most of the straps, etc. on today's camera bags. And tripod bags are expensive!
So, being a cheapskate, I took a leg from an old pair of jeans. (I ride horses, wear my jeans out in the seat so they are never any good for shorts, skirts, etc.!)
Turned the leg inside-out, sewed one end closed using heavy thread, blanket stitch. On the open end, (with the seam from the bottom of the leg intact) I folded it over to the inside of the "bag" a good 3/4 inch and sewed it, then carefully snipped two slits in the outside and threaded a cord through to make a drawstring. I had a couple of nylon loops from somewhere, so I sewed one at each end and attached a regular old camera neckstrap.
Can sling it over my shoulder or cross-body; the bag itself weights next to nothing, no zippers, etc. washable, I lose it I don't care (unless the tripod is in it!)
