Tripod question

If you have a tripod that you can reverse the center column on, is there any disadvantage for not being able to make the column horizontal? Assuming the legs allow you to get close to the ground?

You use the two features differently. The going horizontal is more like having a boom arm. Like, say, you want to use your tripod outside a car, but you want the camera inside the car, through the window. Having your column go upside down still won't let you do that.
