How good of a polarizer should I get...

For my 18-55 kit lens? I have a cheap Sunpack one and am thinking of upgrading to a B+W one. I see they have ones for about $60 and the multi-coated ones for around $90. Is it worth spending $90 on a polarizer for my kit lens? I plan to get a telephoto lens, then eventually upgrade the kit lens to something like the 15-85 USM, but that lens has a different filter size, so is it worth it to upgrade my polarizer? Does it depend on how long before I upgrade it?

You should definitely get one that is multi coated. If you want to save some money buy one that is the largest size you will use (typically 77mm) and then get stepdown rings to make it fit your smaller lenses. That way one filter will work for all your lenses.

Small niggle: it's step-UP rings. Step-down is for large lens diameters and small filter diameters.

Thanks. That's right, I forgot about the step up rings. Do you ever have any problems with vignetting when shooting wide angle using the rings?
