Canon L focus ring

I purchased a Canon 24-105 f/4L last week. This is my first L series lens. I have noticed what I fear is a problem. I am hoping other L series owners can tell me. When I turn the focus ring it gets to either end of it's capabilities the ring can still be turned and the focus doesn't change (which is expected). The feel of the ring changes from smooth to sluggish. the question is should the ring continue to turn or do i have a problem? On my other EF and EF-S lenses the focus ring stops dead at the ends of the focusing capability.

I have this lens and absolutely love it. The focus ring is designed this way. It's not a problem. This has to do (I believe) with the fact that the lens has "full time manual" focusing. Which means you can override the autofocus without putting the lens into "M" mode.
It's normal - don't worry about it.

Standard practice, it's because of the Full-Time manual USM focusing.
