I have a 50mm lens and a Nikon D90 (cropped sensor) right now but I'd like to be able to shoot full body shots (and not have the head and feet at the edges of the frame) in my room, which is probably about 11' or 12' at the longest. I'm torn between the 35mm and the 28mm. I feel like the 28mm might have too much distortion for my taste but would the 35mm be wide enough?

Scroll down to the "Dimensional field of view" calculator Enter the focal length, multiplier (1.5 for the Nikon crop sensor) and distance from the subject and hit "calculate". It will show you how tall and wide of an object you can shoot. That should help determine if the 35 would be wide enough, or if you'd need the 28. |

The 28mm is a great lens and it has very little distortion, unless you're shooting VERY close with stuff at the edges of the frame. If you already have a 50mm, I'd go for the 28mm.
