Default Monolight kit advice/feedback?

I'm thinking about getting this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...light_Kit.html

I'm just getting into studio lighting mostly. I've used continuous lights in my photo class a couple times, but I've never used any flash-type lighting. I want to get some experience with this before I invest a lot of money into it in case I decide it's not what I want to do (I'm already unsure about photography in general, so I don't want to waste money on an occasional hobby). Would this be good for some simple portraits in a room/garage "studio" set up?

It would probably be ok for lighting small things up close ...maybe some head and shoulder portraits...Impact is a decent inexpensive brand. B&H sells a lot of their stuff and it seems to be fine for what it costs.
So back to the light - guide number on the flash is 80 not too much juice there...that's f 8 at 10' full power with the reflector, not the softbox...figure the soft box is going to be 1/2 that so your at f4 at 10 ft...but you have two lights so that should get you back to what f5.6 at 10'... pull the lights in closer and you may get another stop or so...f 8. You can work with that. Really for the price it seems like a nice starter kit. If you go to a bigger kit someday these can be used for rim or hair lights... recycle time will probably be slow and i wouldn't expect a lot of available accessories...
