Hi,
I am new to DSLR. I like to use my Canon 50mm F1.8 but it doesn't have the IS ( Image Stabilizer) function. To obtain pin sharp images, i am wondering whether a monopod would give me the stability and flexibility of taking outdoor and portraits/events shots ( as compared with a tripod). What I find with using a tripod is that it is slower to compose and take focus, in that he camera is fixed on the ball head and harder to move a bulkier tripod around. What do you think? Many thanks |

A monopod can help, but it's more like IS--it has a lower bound, usually within two or three stops. A tripod can go a lot farther than that, being much more stable. So, it depends on how slow you want to go, and, of course, whether or not your subject is moving.
