so I have purchased this remote off ebay. its an exact clone of the MC=36 for a fraction of the price with a connector for the D70 and D80. instructions say to put into bulb mode to use the remote.
well when in bulb mode I can use the timer and it opens the shutter but doesn't close it. I can press the shutter button on the remote yet it doesn't close it. The only way to close the shutter is to unplug the remote. If I leave the camera to a set shutter speed the timer then works as a timer and using the shutter button. maybe there is a setting I am forgetting, but I was trying to take photos of lightening and it was dark and cold and I didn't have time to mess around until today. my only option is to set to 30" seconds, but its fixed i can't go shorter or longer using my timer. ![]() -=Jason=-

I own the ML-3 "wireless' and the MC-DC1 "wired" but neither remote is capable of doing Time Lapse photography. which is why I bough the MC-36 clone from ebay. I guess I can just switch out to the ML-3 or MC-DC1 when I want to do lightening shots in bulb mode and use the MC-36 clone for set shutter speeds.
I found a thread on another forum from 2008 where a fellow was having the same problem as me. his thread died and never got an answer. -=Jason=-

Dont buy cheap clones?
Seriously, an ML-L3 is like $20. Though the MC-36 is considerably more expensive, at least you're guaranteed it'll work.

well since the MC-36 is NOT compatible with the D80 you have to buy a "Cheap Clone" which is made from the same factory, but isn't marked up 300%. its the exact same body, same grip, same menu etc. just says "shoot" instead of "NIKON"
