Default Ring Flash

I'm looking to get a Ring Flash to ease my way into portrait photography, and I understand they can also help with Macro and Stock photography.

I don't want to drop $200 on an Orbis or other big name big price one so I've been looking at some cheap or DIY ones.

Does anyone have any retrogradations?

I saw this on Amazon and it looks semi-well recommended and is about the right price, anyone ever use it? Amazon.com: Coco Ring Flash Adapter for Nikon SB-900 Flash with D300, D200, D70, D80, D50, D40, D40x, D60, & D90 Digital SLR Camera's: Electronics

Thanks

for portraits you might be better served by getting a lightstand and umbrella and using your sb600 off camera. A ring light while used in portrait work isn't real common nor will it provide you much flexibility. I have no idea of the light transmission loss in the one you posted but there will be some...and it is still a small light source so the lighting will tend to be contrasty and harsh.
