Amazon.com: Opteka SB-1 Mini Universal Studio Soft Box Flash Diffuser for Canon EOS, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, Sigma, & Other External Flash Units: Electronics
I mean, it's only $10. Even if it is total junk, it won't break my heart. I just got my speedlite today and I really want one of these. |

well, you'll get softer light since its technically a larger light source than the bare flash. But don't expect anything miraculous. You will still have hard harsh light from that. In my opinion, its useless and you are better off learning how to bounce properly.

3"x5"? Way too small to be useful. Go for one that's at least 8"x9" (Lumiquest III or LTp) [which are still kinda tiny]. Bigger is typically better if you want soft light.
+1 on learning to bounce properly instead being a better strategy. Besides, you can use that $10 for modifiers that'll really work. Trust us, you need gels more than you need a teeny tiny softbox. And you can do wonders with a hair elastic and a $1 sheet of craft foam.
