Default Wireless SD Cards.

Hi has anyone seen the wireless SD cards. I'm struggling with trying to understand the need for them. I assume you need to configure the wireless through an SD card reader in the first place.

Maybe for ...

No that doesn't work.

What does everyone think? Eye-Fi memory cards: wireless photo & video uploads straight from your camera to your computer & the web.

Eye-Fi works over a wi-fi router to connect to a computer or a website. Theyre a pain in the ass and, frankly, a gimmick.

Well, an eye-fi card is a helluva lot cheaper than a $700 wi-fi grip if you want to shoot wirelessly to an iPad with ShutterSnitch. (and, obviously, you don't want to be shooting RAW to the iPad).

It's not a gimmick, imho, if Rob Galbraith says it's as essential to him as Photoshop or a 70-200 lens.

You have to consider the transfer rate though. The new ones are 802.11n compliant but that doesn't mean it will run at that speed. It's only supporting the protocol.

Based on some test I read on the web, a 2MP JPEG takes about 15seconds to transfer.

So yes, a cheaper solution than a true wireless transmitter but there is some flaws to evaluate as well.

Athas_om, I guess it would be usefull for people that need to review the shots right away and using a wire is problematic.
