Default Monitor calibration?

How do I know if my monitor is calibrated properly? And if not, how would I calibrate it?

Thanks!

Here's the answer. You don't, and it isn't.

To be serious, chances are, your monitor is not calibrated, and it would only be if you had a really high quality monitor or had recently calibrated it.

That said, some monitors do a really good job out of the box and in most cases, you don't really need to worry about it. Most lower end monitors need to be calibrated if you're serious about color accuracy, and you can get good results from the SypderPro series or the X-rite series calibration systems. The Sypder Pro3 is about 150 bucks.

However, if you're generally happy with the way your prints and on screen images look, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're unhappy, then you'll want to calibrate.

You can check out some of these monitor tests and see how your set up is doing...but really the best tool is a calibration device as Dan mentions. I have the Spyder3 and it works great.

Thanks! I was just wondering. I've read some stuff on how it's important to have you have your monitor calibrated for printing and stuff. But I haven't really noticed anything wrong with mine. So...

Thanks again.

Do you have the Spider3 Express or the Spider3 Pro? I have looked at both Amazon and the Express has better reviews and is about half the price. I would like to hear from someone who has experience with the Express. TIA.
