Default Help Advice needed on lenses

Hi,

Go easy on me this is my first post and i am totally new to photography, I have decided to go for the plunge and buy my first SLR i have decided on the Nikon D3100 which comes with the 18-55mm Lens , However i do have a little extra cash for a 2nd lens need some advice on a 2nd lens.

What would you be buying as a second lens for a beginner?

I have seen 2 totally different lenses for different purposes what would you do?

what are the pros and cons?


Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di Lens?

Nikon AF-S 35mm f1.8 G DX Lens?

Depends what kind of photography you see yourself doing more of. If you are thinking of wildlife/sports or even landscape photography, the longer lens will be useful (though for the latter your 18-55 will do the job admirably).

If you will be doing more portraits, candids or indoor shots the 35mm will be useful. I have just got this very lens (my other being the 18-55 kit) and am very happy with it so far, if that's any help.

Thankyou, I was swaying more towards the 35mm I think this has made my decision unless anyone else has any suggestions?
