Default need a new neck strap

hey all, i'm looking for a new neck strap for my camera. unfortunately all the electronic stores in town have very little selection. i'm looking for something easily removable. the regular nikon strap that came with my camera is great, except it really gets in the way when my camera is attached to a tripod/gorillapod, or when shooting vertically. i want something that i can clip on, clip off, but still durable enough. i don't want to worry about my strap suddenly giving out!

if anybody has any recommendations, i'd love to see!

I have been using the BlackRapid RS5 and love it lots -- they are launching a new base plate that allows it to be used with a tripod too.. Maybe worth a look?

I've mostly heard good things about BlackRapid straps but can you use them with a sling type bag on your back? Or a normal backpack type?

I'd recommend the BlackRapid straps in a heartbeat. They have one out made for females as well, called the RS W-1. It's curved to fit woman parts. My wife uses it and loves it. It's easy to attach to the camera and take off. I just keep my quick release plate for the tripod attached to the bottom of my camera and attach my RS-5 directly to the plate because it's got a little loop thingy on it. The quick release plate is for the Manfrotto tripods and heads.

I just noticed they have screw for the Manfrotto plates on their website so I'll probably end up ordering that pretty soon.

I've also used the BlackRapid straps with a backpack. My wife has used her's with a slingpack. It works fine with both. I've also got the RS-4 and the CoupleR straps that I use for weddings or shoots that require me to have two bodies. The RS-4 works fine and the CoupleR straps are ok. I don't use it the way they show you though. I put one in the front and one in the back. I'm paranoid when it comes to things like that.

Another BlackRapid fan here too. I have the RS-7. Very secure and really takes the weight of the camera off your neck and distributes it over your shoulder and chest.

Is the FastenR-T1 only for Manfrotto plates or could it be for any tripod plates?

Katia, I think you'd really like the RS-W1 woman's strap by BlackRapid:
RS WS-1 BlackRapid.com
It's very durable, really quick to use and you can easily clip it on/off in a heartbeat. It takes all the weight off your neck which is a huge relief after a long day of shooting. (I can't shoot without mine anymore!)

If you use a tripod, I also recommend the FastenR-T1 bolt and d-ring
FastenR-3 BlackRapid.com
that can be used with the Manfrotto RC2 quick release system, as this hardware is designed to hold the weight of your camera with your R-Strap.

If you have any questions about this system, feel free to let me know

I currently have a very comfortable strap, but am open to a new one with more features.

I am not convinced that this “woman’s strap” is a great idea.

I do not like to have my camera hang at my side. I like it in the front of my body where I can see it and grab it. If the camera is in the front at the hip bone, I can wear a coat or jacket; at the side, it’s more difficult and very obvious. I can wear a long scarf and cover the camera from rain or whatever if the camera is in the front.

Additionally, I often simply place my hands under the camera and lift/hold it. I can’t do that if the thing is at the hip/side of my body.

Therefore, I don’t think this “woman’s strap” would be useful for me. I am inclined to go for the RS-5 or 7 with their storage capacity.

Can you explain why you like the “woman’s strap” so much? I find that often things made specifically for women are wanting.

If you like the cross body idea, you could look at the Sun Sniper Steel.
Sun-Sniper-Steel () - Warehouse Express
I love mine, super comfy, distributes the weight evenly and it has the added security of a very fine steel cable through it so it can't be cut off. Also it doesn't have the clip like the RS-7 which some joker could decide to undo and send your gear crashing to the floor.
