Default Nikon Prime Lens - which one to go for?

Hi,

I am looking to buy a 50 mm f1.4 prime lens for my nikon d 90.
I want to use it to shot portrait shoot as it will give a nice boket.

Which one is better:

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM AF Lens for Nikon SLR

or

Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Thanks
Houssam

Can't speak about the Sigma, but we have the earlier version of the Nikon F/1.4 and it's a great lens. It probably sees 90% of our portrait work. I can only assume the newer model with SIC has to be great also

I'd get the Nikkor..
Or even cheaper and about as good is the f/1.8

They're all slightly, different in a way I wouldn't call them "better"

If I recall correctly, the nikkor g has better bokeh and focus tracking, the sigma has better corner sharpness and faster focus, and the nikkor af-d has smaller size and cheaper price.

These differences with af exception disappear with stopping down, from 4 and on they are closer to equal. As a result the nikkor g may be more suited to portraits and the sigma more to low light interior/landscape. The d if you're going light and have a camera that will af and you don't mind not as great bokeh

..nice new lens, but very expensive. (and I'm not sure if I know why it should be) Unless you need something wider, the 50mm is a better value

Go Nikon all the way. At that range, the price difference is almost negligible for the quality you get. If we were talking a long zoom lens or big telephoto, I'd say consider the Sigma for price reason, but with the 50mm f1.8, definitely go with the Nikon.
