Default Cheap battery / charger (3rd party)

Ahoi!

Sorry if this has been handled already, I searched... but no dice.

Should I avoid cheap (eBay) third party batteries and chargers for a DSLR?
Other than being cheap and of poorer quality, is there any way they may effect the camera?
Or is there any way a cheap charger may effect a genuine (original) battery?

Probably depends on who you buy from.

I got 2 extra 3rd party batteries with my battery grip and they are just as good (or it seems) than the canon one that came with the camera.

I would definitely try one before judging them all. Just pick a reputable seller and you should be fine.

edit:
Forgot to mention that the batteries of course fit in the one that came with the camera also.
