It depends on which lens and which DSLR. AI and AI-S lenses will mount on any modern Nikon DSLR, but will only meter with the pro-level bodies - i.e., not the D90/D5000 or anything below. Pre-AI lenses may damage some modern bodies. Ken Rockwell has a pretty good compatibility chart:

as long as it is not a pre-ai lens. I`d google search, you can find with your serial number, and web images to find if your lens is pre ai, which i suspect the F2 lenses might be, if they are AI - then youre ok
the pre-ai lenses will mount but not meter on the d60 / d3000/ d5000, if i recall, they wont mount on the d90 or higher, |
