So I have the opportunity to purchase a Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 lens from a pro photographer for $900. Do you guys think this is a good deal or is my money better spent elsewhere?
I currently have a D90 with the 18-105 kit lens, a 35mm f/1.8 and an SB-600. I mostly do family photos and portraits of my daughter so the 2.8 would be a real nice addition as well as the zoom since the 35mm just isn't perfect in the setup we have. She also sound the price was $900 firm plus shipping. Do you think its worth it to see if she would come down a little? If so, how much? Thanks |

Sounds like a fair price, provided it's in good shape. In a quick Google search, you're looking at about $1400 new, or ~$1000 used.

Its not a bad price, its not a great price. Check Fredmiranda.com . Personally I find that lens too short for the way I shoot.. I think you would be much better off with a 24-70 f/2.8
A quick search there came up with a 17-55 for $800 including shipping. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/top...=17-55#8786026
