Default Wide Angle For D90 - Under 600.00

(Currently have a 50mm and 70-300mm)

I am looking for a wide angle for my D90.
Of course I would like to get the best bang for the buck...

So far, I have stuck with Nikkor. But am open for Sigma, Tamron, if they will give me more bang....

Primary uses will be vehicles (up closer), landscape and some real estate.

I would appreciate any opinions.....

TIA

I'm happy with my Tokina 12-24. Version I (without built-in motor) goes for about $400 new. Very solidly built and very good optically.

Aegea
Thanks for the comment, I will check Tokina out....havent looked at their specs...

Osmosis

I would like to get pretty wide, but it appears once I go beyond 16mm the price really starts jumping. I would like a zoom capability.

My vehicle shots are getting quite popular, but it is hard getting the entire vehicle in at 70mm from a low angle, without having to backup yards from the subject..which then I lose the low angle I am looking for...

I would really like to be able to get in close...and low....

I really like my Sigma 10-20mm HSM lens. It is the older one, but I think it is actually sharper than the newest one which is somewhat faster. I highly suggest looking at it. If you want to go wide 10mm is quite wide.

Thanks all for replying...

So it looks like Tokina and Sigma....As I haven't dealt with these lenses in the past... Any downsides to either one....?

All the reviews I read said the Tokina was very sharp, but suffered from CA. My example is perhaps not as sharp as I had hoped, but has much less CA than I feared. Maybe some variation from lens to lens. Here's an example:
