Default Remote for Camera

Hi there,

I have a remote for my camera and I've used it only once to test it out. Have not had to use it yet, but I couldn't tell how I can use it without having the setting on a timer? I'm looking for a way to use the remote to take just one shot at a time without the timer. Does anyone know how I can do that. I have a Canon Rebel T2i and I've read the manual and really it only mentions the setting that says remote control/self timer. Any ideas? This is my first DSLR, so I'm new to this whole thing.

Thanks for your help!

Is it the wireless remote or one with a cord?
If it is the one with a cord it is used just like the shutter button on top of your camera. If it is the wireless variety I'm not sure if they have changed it but the Canon XS and XSi could only be used IN FRONT of the camera so it was mostly just good for self portraits.

Well, you never replied and stated which type of remote you have. I have a wired remote for my Canon XS and it plugs into a side panel on the body. It's on the opposite side of the memory card. After I plug mine in, I can take one shot at a time just like pressing the shutter button.

Sorry about that. I haven't had a chance to get back in here in a few days. I have the wireless remote. So, based on your responses, I am guessing it will only work with the self timer. Which means, I'll have to get another remote that is attached by a cord, right? Dang it!

Not familiar with Canon, but as WVCoalMiner mentioned, a wireless remote must be pointed toward the front of the camera to be used. As for whether you can shoot without the timer (again, not sure about Canon), check your drive mode menu. With Pentax you must switch the drive mode to "Remote," and you can select single, or timed exposure, there.

Just downloaded the manual. Remote operation is explained on page 204.
