medium/wide zoom suggestions

In the coming month si have the need for a wide angle zoom, so i'm looking for suggestions.

when i say "wide" i dont mean wider than 14mm

ideally, i want to keep it on one body, whilst i have the 50-150 on the other
So, the 18-50 f/2.8 EX DC HSM Macro seems pretty appealing. as i dont have any focal range missing inbetween like what this 16-35 would leave me. BUT, reviews arent great on its performance..

i'll probably ditch most of my other lenses to help fund it.

i've heard of a Nikon branded lens of similar focal range to the Sigma?

no intention of going full frame anytime soon.. DX bodies are getting pretty darn good.
