You should pay $850 more and get a Mac with a smaller display, slower processor, 2GB less RAM, and 140 GB smaller HDD.

All facetiousness aside, it should be a great laptop for photography. The only thing I'd caution against, is that laptop displays are notoriously hard to calibrate. Get a separate display to ensure accurate results from computer to print.

I too am a mac devote who would NEVER spend my hard earned $$ on a PC!

You can purchase a used Macbook Pro and be much better off. Plug and play. NOTHING extra to buy, unlike with a PC.

The screens are easy to calibrate. Add a large screen and you can’t go wrong.

Check out “Mac of all Trades” for a used machine: Used Macs and Used Apple Notebooks: Reconditioned MacBook Pros, PowerBooks, Mac Books, And iBooks - Mac Of All Trades

That's because OSX doesn't need the faster processor, extra RAM or larger HDD. It doesn't munch on RAM like windows does.

And besides, if you're serious into photography, you'll have external HDs for all your images and backups.

So pay more for less.. I don't see the point, if it is just for the Mac OSX then you could easily find a laptop for cheaper where you can install mac osx onto it.

Back to the choice of OP, you should check sony website for the same system as it may be cheaper, bestbuy usually does not offer the cheapest option.

A little harsh, but overall I agree...it should be fine for photography and a better external monitor for "docked" work is a good idea.

FWIW, I use a 17" Macbook Pro. I love the system and the computer, but there's pro's and con's to everything....

Jus sayin.
