Default help: lenses

hi all,

i am looking for a new basic zoom lens. somewhere along the lines of 20-80 on an FX.
Larger aperture is not a must
I am on a very tight budget and do not want to spend more than about Can. $200-$250.
TIA

They'll all mount, but DX lenses will vignette.

See if you cant find a used 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 (the old kit lens) for cheap. Or, consider using a prime lens instead.

KEH has some (used) 28-105s in your price range. Surprisingly good lens.

I found the Tamron version and am considering it : Tamron AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical AF Zoom Lens AF77N700 -, but at $70 i'm wondering if it'll be any good

well i've narrowed it down to the tamron, or a nikon 28-70 f3.5-4.5 macro : Nikon Autofocus 28-70 F3.5-4.5 D MACRO (52) WITH CAPS 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM WIDE ANGLE LENS - KEH.com

I think i'm going to go with the Nikon, but how can i know which lenses will work on film FX cameras

As long as it doesnt have "DX" in the lens code, it's fine. If it's more than 5 years old, chances are it's good to go.
