Default Nikon D300s - Good deal?

Hello,
I need help to decide if it is better to buy D300s now with the deal am getting now or holiday season is better?

I will buy from BestBuy because they have a coupon for 10% off. Approx cost of D300s (body only) is $1500.. so that will save me $150. Plus a $300 4 year extended protection plan. Plus they have a 3 year no interest financing..

I don't have huge clientele right now, but by end of year with my promotional efforts I hope to gain some.

Before this coupon & no interest promotion came up I was planning to buy D300z by end of the year after I make some from assignments.

This deal looks very compelling but not sure if it is good or not.

Please advise.

Thanks,

It's currently at 1479.99 at B&H.

I wouldnt bother with the 4 year extended plan. Waste of money, especially at that price.

If you've got the coupon, go ahead: 1350 is cheaper than 1480. I'd just skip the Best Buy extended thing.

Hmm.. I don't think prices drop too often with DSLRs.. D40 still costs very much the same as when I got it couple of years back..

Is it better to get separate insurance for the camera?

I have few days to think about before the coupon expires.. gotta convince my finance manager.. beloved wife.. may be if I get lot of replies here saying yes she might agree

Check the prices on Nextag. "Nikon D300s" - Digital Cameras - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at NexTag - Price - Review

If you don’t need video you can purchase the D300 for a bit less. The reviews do not show much difference between the two cameras other than video. I have a D300 and love it!

The extended warrantee is offered by Nikon for both body and lenses. You have a limited amount of time to purchase those. I only purchase such insurance on computers and cameras. I had a hard drive and lens go bad therefore, I feel the insurance is a good thing. Saved my a couple of thousand $$.

i cant coment on US prices... dont know.
all i know is i dont for a second regret buying it..... its an incredible machine.

if you're using it for financial gain, i'll bet my.... OK, i'll bet you wont be insured by your general home & contents insurance. AND, thurhtermore, they probably wont allow you to list it as a special item.

I went to a different company,
You will need liability insurance anyway as a business... so get a quote for liability/indemnity/accidental damage/theft all in one, and you'll probably get a lower rate by combining all your business insurance in one company.

Thanks. I will checkout the review. I most likely will go for D300s.. am one of those souls who prefers to go for the latest if there is small difference in price

Is buying warranty from Nikon cheaper than from say B&H or BestBuy?

I am sure I won't regret any bit of buying the D300s Only thing I gotta figure out is if I should spend now or wait for holidays to get a better deal.. I don't have cash right now & may or may not be able to recover even half of the cost in few months.. I know it's a personal thing but guess suggestions from ya'll will help me decide what to do..

I have checked out the business insurance.. will get it soon..

Well, it’s a few hundred dollars difference. Why don’t you check out the reviews to help you make up your mind? Nikon D300S Review: 30. Conclusion: Digital Photography Review

An SLR camera video is not the same as a dedicated video cam. I have both and the SLR video is rather like one on a cell phone, handy in a pinch, but not very useful for anything worthwhile.

Not that I know of. You can check it out. However, based on personal experience I would NEVER again purchase a third party extended warranty. I got burned on one. Go to the manufacturer.

Ms Lumico.. I checked the review you sent as well as few others. The difference is the HD video, 2 slots for cards, better AF, and virtual horizon. None of these are significant to buy a D300s.

However, I was not able to find a body only deal for D300 on B&H, Adorama, Amazon, BestBuy. Amazon and BestBuy have some D300s w/ lenses but those are in $2K range. Plus the 3-yr interest free financing is a good one too..

I might try BB to give their package deal without the lens

Umm... the AF is unchanged, as is the virtual horizon. The D300s does video (a significant change), has 2 memory card slots, has a faster continuous rate (7 rather than 6, with a maximum of 8 with the MB-D10 grip and an EN-EL4 battery) and has a few ergonomic differences all around.

Oh ok.

Well I did some math again.. realized I wasn't accounting for the tax that I'd have to pay if I bought at BB. So now the difference is only $50

Looks like I'll have to wait grrrrrrrrrr unless yea BB has D300 body only.

Edit: Oh but the 3 yr interest free is still there .. However, my highness won't be easily convinced now.. need to show her some good assignments.. back to marketing..
