that is such a bad idea. Using normal cotton you are guaranteed to get a spec of dirt (grain of something) involved at some point and then you will have a unrepairable scratch. Microfibre should be the only thing that touches the lens

Cotton t-shit and some spit?

For the sensor... really I'm not excited about cleaning the sensor. I think for the materials and time involved, it makes more sense to pay someone to do it, instead of chance screwing it up. I let dust stay on the mirror, it doesn't bother me much and knocking the mirror out of alignment is pretty much really bad.

Doesn't bother me too much if the outside of the camera body or lens takes some wear. Attracts less attention.

For my old-but-newly-bought Canon EOS 5D "old", I just ordered the Zeeion blower (not exactly cheap, but I read a good review on another Italian forum) + swabs + eclipse + microfiber cloths (for the lense glass).

VisibleDust - Product Page

It will be by first senson blowing / cleaning.

I hope my camera and me will survive!

So much for all those lenses that were cleaned before micro-fibre became "the thing."

There is much paranoia and fear-mongering about lenses and such, when the real facts are that they are a lot more durable than the folks trying to sell you a line of cleaners would like you to believe.

Rubbing alcohol and micro fiber for the lenses.

Cleaning the sensor is no big thing, just use the proper products for it. I do macro and extreme macro and must have a clean sensor at all times, I have cleaned the sensor in my 50D 4 times last year
