Default Sigma 50-500mm DG OS HSM?

Just ordered the lens today, anyone else using this lens yet? All the reviews seem to be excellent and I am looking forward to receiving it shortly. Now I can get a descent shot of that stinking tailless squirrel that has been running around my backyard. LOL

I have the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM. It is a heavy lens, but I have managed to get some pretty good hand held shots due to the optical stabilizer. I hope to get some more use out of it when the weather gets a little cooler and the birds stop over in October. One thing about that lens, when you pull that bazooka out people notice. lol

Yeah it looks like this one is just over 4lbs which is the only thing I am worried about. After being at the airshow this weekend with my 70-300mm and seeing plenty of 500mm's on there I couldn't resist. Plus my kid will be getting into sports soon and I want to try some wildlife shots too. I've been happy with my other sigma lenses so hopefully this follows with that trend. It has the OS so I'm really looking forward to see how that helps.

I have no complaints about my Sigma. I knew it was going to be heavy and a little hard to handle when I bought it, but I wanted something for birding and maybe hit a couple of zoos this fall. When I get home today I will post a couple of hand-held shots I've taken with it. There is a little softness, but still respectable considering its physical size.

Both of these were taken with my Sigma at 500mm and hand-held. I don't think they would be close to sharp without the Sigma OS.

Wow not bad at all. Can probably clean up good in lightroom too. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully that squirrel missing his tail shows up tomorrow. Funny little critter. Lol

Ok got it! I am digging this lens. Of course normally my back yard has all kinds of animals zipping around but of course when the new lens arrives they all hide except a squirrel and a moth. Lol here's 2 shots I got with the new lens.

Way to go! It is kind of an amazing feeling to sneak into their world and grab some shots without disturbing them.
