This post is a bit of a rant but mostly a warning to anyone thinking about purchasing a Dell U2410 monitor. After reading a number of positive reviews of this monitor on various sites I took the plunge and decided to replace my old Acer LCD monitor. As it used a cheap TN panel, I was getting tired of the screen colors and contrast changing every time I shifted in my chair and changed my viewing angle. I was looking forward the improved IPS panel of the Dell.
I hooked up the new Dell and immediately thought, "What the ...?" The right hand side of the screen had a pinkish cast and the left side was greenish. I quickly got out my Spyder3 and ran a calibration which made a big improvement from the factory settings but the pink and green color casts were still there. I went to the Dell site to look for a solution and to my horror came across a forum thread spanning almost 2 years full of complaints about the pink/green color casts. Apparently Dell has taken the position that they don't recognize the issue, claiming all panels are within specifications and have stopped making exchanges based on this problem. IMO, this flaw makes this monitor completely useless for photo editing. Check out this photo of a white screen in Photoshop and tell me what you think. (It is blurry so I could show the color without a distracting moire pattern.) |

If thats the case he can't return it, though I would at least talk to them if you haven't already, just because they seem like they aren't doesn't mean they wont at all. If that doesn't work, is it possible to get a refund on it, I don't know Dell's policies. Other than that the best you can do is put it up for sale and hope no one sees those problems before they buy it.

Yes, that's most likely what I'll do. However, once I pay shipping and their restocking fee it will have cost well over $100 just to try this piece of junk out.
I wouldn't want to con someone into buying it from me. If they wanted to see it working no one would buy it anyway. |
