Hello there,
I've just returned from a 3 month expedition in East Asia, had a lovely time and took several thousand pictures. With me I brought a laptop, which proved great for helping me to free up my SD Cards, backup images to DVD, and upload them to my flickr account. However, backpacking with a laptop is not very ideal. Next month I will be leaving again on another adventure, this time to Europe. I'll be gone for several months and I really don't want to be burdened with a laptop. However, I am faced with a problem. What to do with all the gigabytes of images? I don't want to buy hundreds of SD cards... (or would that be cheaper in the long run?) I'd like a device similar to a portable hard-drive, that will allow me to backup and store my .RAWs, but I want to be able to do this on the fly, without a computer acting as a transfer medium. Does anyone know about portable hard-drives that have SD readers? Are there any sort of adapters I can use to dump data onto an iPod or portable HD? What do seasoned travel photographers use when they're out in the field? Thanks for reading, I'm sure someone out there has faced a similar problem. Cheers, Mike |

What about a netbook? Something like the ASUS Eee range with the 10.1 inch screen - much smaller and lighter than a normal laptop but with a decent hard drive and a screen large enough to check your images.

Sanho makes very nice little cases for 2.5" Hard drives.
HyperDrive I bought an old version you cannot see the pictures and they are very solid (aluminum case) and work very well.
