Default Polarising Filters - 72mm + 52mm or 72mm and step up ring?

Hey everyone,
Am looking at getting circular polarizer filters for my Nikkor 50 1.8 and 18 - 200mm. Am I better to get the larger filter and a step up ring for my 50 1.8, or just get two filters. Two filters seems easier, less fussing and crap that gets on the lens, but is more expensive. Would love to hear your opinions.

Thanks!
Ari

I usually recommend one filter (77mm) and step up rings. The reason for 77mm is that it's the largest standard size for most everything, so it'll cover about 99% of lenses with a step-up ring.

I use a 77mm ND filter on my 50mm f/1.8 with a 52-77 step up ring. Works fine.

Get the best you can justifiably afford.
