Default Canon wide lens recommendation

Hey guys and gals,
I just recently went from a crop body to a FF, as a result I can no longer use my 17-55mm f2.8.
I still have my 24-105mm L series but I feel like I'm missing a little more wide area coverage.

So what do you guys think, what's a good wide lens for a 5d2?

R.

Uh...

17mm X 1.6 = 27.2mm

So you're actually WIDER now.

As OsmosisStudios says - you are actually 3mm wider now!
That is significant.

If you want real wide and are not shooting hand held in low light.

Canon 17-40 F4 L

Or if shooting hand held in low light

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM

Or if you like primes Canon make 4 of them <= 20mm

I don't have an ultrawide for my 5D as I have kept my 1.6 crop bodies as a second camera/backup and have a Tokina F4 12-24mm for them.

Yeah, I wish the 10-22 ef-s would go on my 5DII... it will, but I have to file some bits off and I'm not so keen... such a good lens!

the 16-35 (MKII) is awesome... and so is the price tag!

If you don't mind less awesomeness for lower price tags, the predecessors to the EF 16-35 f/2.8L II are (going backwards in time):
  • EF 16-35 f/2.8L USM Mk I (2001-2007)
  • EF 17-35 f/2.8L USM (1996-2001)
  • EF 20-35/2.8L (1989-1996)
And then there's that Samyang/Rokinon/etc. 14mm f/2.8....

Yeah I just figure that out. I'm still getting use to the FF body.
I still would like to have a wider lens though.

The 17-40 and the 16-35 are the 2 that caught my attention. I love the f2.8 speed but someone else had a good point about not really needing it. I thought it was a valid point.
