AUBURN, Calif. and Budapest, Hungary, August 9, 2010 -- ioSafe and 360world today announced that the world’s largest photograph – a 350 gigabyte, 71.3 billion pixel panoramic image of Budapest – is protected by a fireproof and waterproof ioSafe Solo external hard drive.

The photograph was made using two 25 megapixel Sony A900 cameras, each equipped with a 400mm super-telephoto Minolta lens and 1.4X teleconverter, mounted on a robotic head. During the test phase, more than 20,000 photos were taken and the completed image consists of more
than 5,000 individual photos stitched into one. Post-processing was performed using a Dell Precision T7500 Workstation with dual 4-core Xeon processors and 24GB memory. Each chunk of the photo took more than an hour to open and more than 3 hours to save with the final compilation taking 55 hours of computer processor time. A copy of the photo printed at 300 DPI would be 156 meters long and 31 meters tall.
“Creating this record-beating image was a substantial undertaking,” said 360world CEO, Zsolt Mihályfi. “All-in-all, the project took more than 100 man-hours to complete and required more than 300 hours of computer processing time. We wanted the best possible protection for the
image and for the time we invested in making it. We believe the Solo provides just that.” “Protecting data from disasters is a real challenge,’ said Robb Moore, CEO of ioSafe. “To back up 350 GB of data online would take more than a month over a T1 connection. Keeping a copy
offsite is an option, but there will always be a window between the time data is created and the time it can be moved offsite – and that’s a window of vulnerability. This is a problem faced by many businesses, especially smaller ones. The ioSafe Solo is a simple solution to the problem
and provides an easy way for both businesses and home users to secure their important data against loss due to fires, floods or other disasters.”

It's be nice if they'd actually SHOW the picture (well, a lower-res copy or a picture of the print on display or such. And I don't mean just a tiny part of it coming off a printer.) As it is, it just looks like a fancy ad for a fancy hard drive.

p.s. it IS an ad for a fancy hard drive... well spotted! I liked the statistics though.

I didn't say I couldn't find it if I tried; I simply was saying that they didn't show it, link to it, etc in that video or article. And I hate the "news articles" that are simply an ad.

If it'd said something like "worlds largest picture. Here's the video of its making You can see the actual picture here from their site We stored it all on...." I'd not have as much of an issue. How hard would it have been for them to show a link the way you did or put in a picture of a crowd standing in front of the printout (THAT would have been even more impressive) into the video or such?
