Default Blackrapid R-strap: Can it be modified to free tripod mount?

Anyone out there modify any of the Blackrapid rstraps so the tripod mount is free? I absolutely love my strap, but its kind of a pain if I want to use it along with a tripod or gorillla pod. Anyone know if there is some way of attaching it to the standard strap points on any DSLR camera?

It should be easy enough to do. The strap itself has a locking caribiner type hook on the end. All you would need to do is thread some webbing through the standard strap points and then clip the strap onto it. Using both strap points would ruin one of the best features of the R-Strap, that being that it holds it by the bottom with the lens pointed down.

I completely agree about losing one of he best features. But it would only be a once and a while when I bring my tripod with me. What they need is an adapter plate with a hot attachment that screws into the tripod mount. That way you could use your tripod and your rstrap.

I hate the BlackRapid mounting tot he tripod socket for another reason: It always seemed to come loose! I've contacted them about having an option to ditch the tripod socket attachment and have it be a standard camera strap loop, and I heard back, but I didnt seem to have made much of an impact. They said they had considered it and are looking into feasibility.

What type of tripod head/plate do you use?
It would not be very difficult to remove the plate mounting screw, drill a hole thru it's head and add a loop the strap could hook to...

Do you have the newer screw with the heavy rubber grommet? Mine doesn't seem to come loose.

I've always preferred crossbody straps because it's always felt more comfortable for me. Seeing as how the BlackRapid uses a caribiner, you could always just use a small keyring and attach it to the strap points on the camera body. I modified my stock straps to fit in this manner, and I use a quick release hook that functions in the same way that the BlackRapid caribiner would. The camera on the right has a similar mod but without the quick release hook.

Yup: Still managed to come loose while just walking around the store, and that was cranked right tight as hard as I could.
