Default Flash Bracket

Can someone recommend a reasonably priced flash bracket for my Nikon D5000 with an SB 600? I was just on a Carnival Cruise and the photographers were using Nikon 300s cameras with a different brand flash. Does anyone know what equipment they use?

Metz, perhaps? They make several very powerful "hammerhead" style flashes designed to be used on a bracket.

Just wondering, but why do you want a bracket? I see some people use the for paparazzi/wedding photography, but a lot of people just use bounce/diffusers. Does it help that much?

I have a diffuser that works well, but if I don't have someone with me when shooting, I end up hand-holding the flash from time to time. I could set it up on a stand but in the interest of time I just hold it. In addition, my flash weighs a ton when the diffuser is attached so I would like to have it off of the hot shoe so the setup is more balanced.

I use a stroboframe camera flip which raises the flash, drives the shadows down and behind and keeps the flash over the axis when shooting portrait.

You can buy them for about $100, or get them used around $50. Takes a little getting used to, and can be a pain to figure out how to zoom and hold the frame, but now that I have a handle on that, I like the results. I would prefer not to use it, as it adds weight and is a little akward, but the pictures at the end of the day make it worth while for me.

The camera I am holding in my Avatar is mounted on it. If you want a larger image, it is the same picture on my web page in the "about" section
