Question "Low Prolile" Filters

I've just acquired a Tokina Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX (Canon fit) super-wide angle. I intend to get UV and cirular polarizer filters, but wanted recs for good quality, low profile filters that won't break the bank.

Many thanks

Mr D

Dont bother with a circular polarizer: it'll just give you some really weird colouring to your skies when you use it on a lens that wide.

As for a good UV filter, the slim-mount B+W ones are nice, if a bit pricy.

When ever I give advice on lens filters I always send people to Maxsavers. I don't think you'll find a better price anywhere.

I wouldn't recommend a CP filter for your new lens though. I have that lens & love it but I rarely ever use the CP filter that I purchased without investigating first. It's such a wide angle that it acts differently across the entire scene. CP filters depend on the angle of the light source & the width of the scene you are capturing includes many different angles so the effect you get is dark sky in the center of the frame & less effect as you go to the corners of the frame. This can be fixed in post work to some degree but it's a pain. Or, you can crop the photo to the center of the frame.

Many thanks. I am aware of the B+W slim mount filters, but I am really looking for a cheap(skate) alternative

Okay, that 2 votes for avoiding CP, so best I take the hint Glad you rate the lens though, so maybe I made the right choice after all. I'm taking it to Greece later this month (along with the wife)!

I've looked at the Maxsaver site, but note they ship direct from Hong Kong. I don't have an issue with this, but local customs do, and they slap on extra duty and handling charges. I'll look for a source elsewhere, and if I'm not going to have a polarizer, maybe I'll strectch to the B plus W Slim Mount after all - unless anyone has a better suggestion?

Oh man, that will be a great lens for landscapes. If I had to decide between the two, I'd leave the wife at home & take the lens.
