Nikkor 35mm 1.8/50mm 1.8 overlap?

I'm considering purchasing a D90 body to replace my old D40. I own a 35mm AF-S from Nikkor which I purchased as my first (and only) prime lens for low-light situations, and because it was an affordable AF-S lens. If I get a D90, would it be worth it to purchase the highly praised 50mm 1.8, or do those two lenses overlap too much?

I'd skip the 50 and go to the 85 instead. Better for portraits.
