Default Did I get taken?

So i bought a little macro screw on lens just to play around with. I am wondering if it's actually any better then the lens I already have. I wasn't planning on doing Macro for a living but I just wanted a new toy.
I have a nikon 18-55 3.5-5.6. It takes some prett nice close ups but I wanted closer.
The new lens just screws onto the 18-55. It is a "Digital High Definition 0.45X Superwide angle lens with macro"

Below is an example of a photo taken first with and then without the macro screwed on. I don't see any difference. Do I need to change any settings? (I also included pics of the lens itself.) The 2 pieces screw onto each other and then onto my lens.

did you move the camera closer to take the shot?

that filter should allow the camera to focus closer to the subject.
but the "wide angle" part makes me worry its not a dedicated macro filter.... which could be your problem

I tried to stay the exact distance for both shots. My husband switched to fully manual on my camera and was able to move in for a closer shot and that seemed to work but bugs don't sit still that long!!

I don't understand why you'd stay at the same distances. The point of a macro lens (or filter) is to focus CLOSER than you could normally get.

A better test would be focusing as closely as possible on something which is stationery -- that should be a better test. Do it with your standard lens, and with the filter.

I was as close as I could get and still be able to focus for both shots. I wanted to see if the macro would make the photo look any closer then the normal lens and it didn't. It was zoomed all the way in, any closer and the camera couldn't figure out what to focus on.

Macro and autofocus don't tend to play well together. Presumably this is the same lens you used for your spider pictures elsewhere on the forum, so it looks like you may have solved it.

Yes Wulf, my husband actually figured it out for me. I am better at getting "the shot" he is much better at the technical stuff.
Now time to go out and PLAY!!
