Default backdrops?

So, I want to go out and buy some black and white cloth to use as backdrops and whatnot for some little photography fun. I figured I would just got to fabricland and buy a couple yards of cloth, but what to buy?
Is there a certain type of cloth i should buy? Is cotton good enough? I'm not looking for pro right now, just something to throw up when i feel like playing. Whats the best type of fabric to look for for cheap? Is there anything SHOULDN'T get?

Thanks A bunch
Duckie

I'd be tempted to suggesting forgoing that and just getting a roll of paper. It's likely cheaper.

Paper is great as long as you have a hard floor in your shooting area. Really a hard floor surface is best with any kind of backdrop. I have carpet, so I have to use a piece of plywood under my backdrops.

As far as material, for white just about anything would work, but be careful of black. I tried using black king size sheets once, and the material had something in it that reflected light in a really bad way.

Most people just use muslin for backdrops. I never tried it, but have had good luck buying large painters canvas drop cloths, and dyeing them the color I want. For black, I bought 2 king size dark blue velvet comforters. I can shoot them blue, or adjust my lights to get a deep black.

paper is best.. you will spend forever getting the creases out of a sheet in PS or durng the shoot.
