I have an old Nikon 35 mm SLR film camera that I used for years. I used a Sekonic L98 lightmeter as a companion device. Now I have a Nikon D5000 with internal metering and I'm wondering if the Sekonic can add anything to DSLR photography. Should I leave the Sekonic in the old film camera bag, or move it to the new digital equipment bag?
Gosh! Switching from film to digital raises all sorts of questions... ![]() Thanks Jim |

The Sekonic is still very useful, especially if you go to do anything involving external flashes. Same techniques apply.
You can also try using it on landscapes, though that might have a bit more limited useability.

A reflected meter is no replacement for a good incident meter. Yeah usually it will get you by and it's easy enough to shoot and adjust but when you can accurately read the light at any given spot if your shot I still think it's invaluable. Ultimately they're best used in conjunction with each other but I'd still keep it in my bag.
