Lens stopped working

Hi everybody!

I got a Canon XSi with a kit lens. (bought it last year) and now the kit-lens stopped working. I get an Err 01 message.
I tried my other lens (EF-S IS 55-250mm 1:4-5.6) and that one works just fine. Any idea why the one lens wont work?

I can't remember for sure but I think that's a contacts error. Have you tried taking a pencil eraser and gently cleaning the lends and body contacts?

Canon's Error 01 is indeed a lens contact issue. As TFord suggests - get a CLEAN pencil eraser and just give the contacts on the lens a gentle clean. Don't use a spray-based contact cleaner, because the potential for getting that all over the lens is too high. An eraser should be more than adequate for cleaning the contacts.

Sorry for the late reply.
I had the lens send in to Canon and they fixed it (just had to pay the shipping to them and that's it).
