I am a beginner at photography and own a nikon D700 wt some other lenses including zoom lense 70-300. Am looking to purchase a light weight tripod for travelling purposes, and couldnt decide which of the above model should i get....I intend to purchase a 70-200 VRII lense one day. at the moment I own a manfrotto 055 prob tripod which i find a bit too heavy for me (I m a female weighing 49kg).

D700+70-200 f/2.8 pretty much means the 190CX, but even that... might be better off with the 055.
D700+70-200 f/2.8: over 1KG+over 1.5KG. Let's call it 3, realistically, to be safe. 732CY: Supports 3.5KG, but not reliably. I've found it to be rather flimsy. 190CX: Supports 5KG, and much better. It also depends on which head youre putting on the legs too. They can weigh a fair bit, 1kg in some cases.

I just got a 190 and I gotta say, even as a smaller sized female, it's awesome to have that much weight and stability for my shots. On the positive side, it came with a great carrying case that really helps.
Good luck!

Yeah the MY series of Manfrotto stuff is not cut out for that. Did a demonstration at work with the ball head version of that tripod, a D3000 and the 55-200 VR and by the end of the thing four hours later the camera was drooping. Before that it just didn't feel all that steady to begin with. On top of that no changeable head on the MY series, except the one carbon fiber model that's over twice as much I believe, so less flexibility there.
There are a few things that just based on the weight you can generally get a quick idea of quality and tripods are usually one of them when it comes to stability. |
