Default Canon 85 1.8 or 50 1.4?

Just recently switched to Canon from Nikon after some of the Nikon stuff got broken and unloaded some of the functioning stuff for about $450. Have a T1i for now until I can grab a 7D or 5D but only have the kit lens right now. The ultimate plan is to be doing weddings and portrait work but also doing some sports and landscape shooting and I want to go with a prime kit (probably use the 24, 50, 85 or 135 and maybe the 200 for certain scenarios).

So the dilemma is this: with very little to add above what I just recouped from the Nikon gear do I snag the 85 first which is supposed to be very creamy and great for portraits; the 50 which will still be a solid portrait lens on APS-C and probably a little more versatile; or maybe chip in the the extra 30 bucks and grab the 85 and the 50 1.8 instead of the 1.4 but I'm not certain there's enough perspective difference to justify the cost even as a stop gap?

The 85 was going to be my next Nikkor purchase and what I've been eying for a while but my concern is that if I'm going to be working with one lens for a bit that it might be too tight for a lot of shots while at the same time not giving that much more reach over the 50 for sports shooting. And I have to be able to get good shots in the delivery room in three months without backing out the door of course.

I've looked at some other options like the Sigma 28-70 2.8 and most people seem to be pleased with it but it's always hard to feel comfortable buying third party. That and it's a crop sensor lens and when I won't have five grand just to drop on lenses in the next year I'd rather go for lenses I know are of excellent quality and preferably qualify towards CPS membership as well. Granted I'm open to other suggestions as well and just want the best quality for my money. If anyone's had a similar experience with these lens I'd appreciate it.

Couple other options, if you're looking for a normal field-of-view on a crop:

Sigma 30/1.4 DC HSM
Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM
Canon EF 35mm /f2

And if you're heading into long lens territory:

Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM (not to be confused with the f/2.8 Macros)
Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 Soft Focus

If you know you're comfortable with a 50 as your general purpose lens, then possibly getting the 50/1.8 and the 100/2 as a set would make you happier about having more space between your primes (and you'd be doing the old classic doubling of focal lengths for a set. Add a 24mm, and you're done). The 100/2 is a near-twin to the 85/1.8. Both are ring-type USM. Both have excellent bokeh, reach, and sharpness. The 135 f/2.8 Soft Focus is an older design, but also lets you mess about with spherical aberration, like the DC (Defocus Control) on the Nikon 105/2 and 135/2. It's also quite sharp with good bokeh, but its design is straight out of the '80s, lacking even USM.

I will say that I was handed a friend's D700 with a 50/1.4 on the front of it, and when I put it up to my face, the view was pretty damn close to what I was getting on my crop-body 50D with an adapted Leica-R 35mm f/2. I've event shot with a 135L and my 35/2, and felt pretty comfortable, but I'm weird.

Appreciate the input inkista, always respect your opinion when I read your posts on the forums. Got to shoot a Saving Abel concert yesterday at the Best Buy where I work and got to use a 7D with a couple zooms and it was an experience I absolutely loved and want to do more of. Of course I'm totally spoiled now having gotten to use that camera like that AND being the actual photographer for the event. Love that camera when I shot the whole thing at 3200 iso and the only shots where the noise is visible it just looks like film grain, can't even imagine how much better the full frames are.

Anyway looking through the flagged shots in Lightroom everything I liked was shot at 28, 35, 50, 100 and 135 despite having a zoom. Funny how that works out sometimes isn't it? So I think for now with your suggestion I'll go for the 50 1.8 and the Sigma 30 1.4 if I can find it at a good price or the 35 2 otherwise and then add the 20 2.8 Canon lens and either the 100 or 135 a bit later.
