Are you focusing on areas with contrast? If not, that can be the problem.
I have the Tamron 17-50 too, but haven't experienced this problem. I use a Nikon D300, and to my recollection, I haven't noticed any focus problem on any focus points. Have you tried to focus manually? Do you get sharp pictures then? If your copy of the lens has a focusing error, that the internal lenses are not able to focus properly, the AF in the camera is never/seldom able to find enough contrast to focus becaus of the lack of sharpness. But I'm only guessing. |

@zetson
Haven't noticed any issues while using MF. Anyway, took it to the retailer yesterday, they checked it on mine, and other "out-of-the-box" body. Still the lens was behaving erratically on right side. They replaced it, and the new one seems fine for now. @auto-focus Yep, it does AF
