I have two cameras that I use. One is a sony cyber shot that is really easy and quick to use. I like it because it is small and compact but gives me more dof control and other similar features that a regular point and shoot does not (although it is classified as a point and shoot by some). I also have a Canon Rebel XSi. I love my canon but it can be a bit bulky for just random everyday use. I am just getting a feel for the use of the canon and would like to have the option of taking it with me from time to time. My problem is that my case for it is so big, and none of the other camera cases I have will fit the body AND the lens. I have been told by some people that it is fine to travel with the lens attached and others say this is bad for the camera. I have also been told by some that it is okay, since I carry a backpack anyway, to just stick the body and lens in my backpack (together obviously) along with my books, lunch, etc so that it is easily at the ready should I have a need for it. I am a young woman who travels alone most days and carrying an additional bag doesn't seem wise when I'm taking public transportation. The trains aren't crowded when I'm on them and I am always very careful with my bag anyway as I prefer my sandwiches like my cameras, unsmashed.
Everyone here seems to be so helpful and more knowledgeable than the non-photographers I am surrounded by. What would you advise? Jo |

Get a Zing neoprene wrap/cover that will fit the camera with lens attached. That way it has some protection from the other stuff in your bag. I typically do this when I want to travel light with a single non-camera bag.

I tend to use a lot of older equipment, mostly because I can't really afford to sink a lot of money into photography just yet. (It's the darn kids, they expect to be fed more then once a day... every single day! )
Anyways, I was using a Fujifilm 6900z as my everyday, just have on hand camera for a long time, but it is pretty much dead now. I have a Panasonic Lumix FX7 I really like, but no viewfinder, etc. But I am looking at replacing the Fuji with either a Canon Powershot S3, a Nikon L100, or a Kodak Easyshare Z915 (??). All three are small enough to toss in my EDC bag (everyday carry), all three take good pictures and all three fit into my budget. None of them are all that bulky, but larger and more comfortable for my to use then the FX7, much smaller then my Nikon or Canon's. Canon's G11, S90, SX20IS, SX210IS, SX200IS, and SX120IS all have good features and reviews, but I have never seen, or used any of them. What's your budget? Any feature that is a "must have"? Hope this helps point you in the right direction...
