Default Weatherproofing your Camera

Alright i normally would not need this because i wouldn't be crazy enough to shoot in the rain but i am having to do a shoot rain or shine for a sporting event and unfortunetly, it looks like its going to be rain. I've seen another shooter one time with some type of poncho over his DSLR and lens but i am skeptical as to how to do that properly. Does anyone have any tips or is there some piece of prefabricated equipment i could get overnighted to me?

They are called rain sleeves. Sometimes they are camera model specific and sometimes not. Ensure that you look at one big enough to cover your lens and also provide access to controls. One thing to worry about as well is condensation.

I've used large cereal box innards before too. You could also look at any clear plastic bag. Affix it to the camera with rubber bands or something like that. Does work in a pinch.

These people have them. They work but I still wouldn't use them in a real downpour.

Look for rain covers in the left column.

I shoot in the rain all the time and use a Kata E702. It can be a pain in the butt to use, especially with a zoom lens, but it keeps my camera dry while still being accessible. Before I had that I used a 2.5 gallon zipper lock bag with a hole cut in it for the lens. That worked fairly well, but wasn't as convenient as the kata rain cover.
