Question Yet another tripod topic:)

Hey everyone, hope you don't get angry with me, but I don't feel like hijacking another bloke's topic and filling it with my questions.

I recently bought a Canon 550D and have since invested in
- a class 10 memory card
- flipside 300

Now I am looking for a tripod, however I do not know which one to get. I'm someone who wants to buy good and not regret it later on, thus please recommend me something good!
There was this site I came across which recommended this combo for my camera:
- 322 RC 2
- 190 XPROB

It's not really affordable, but I rather go for it (even though that seems expensive for a tripod - via amazon.de) than be miserable or miss a shot later down the path.

Your thoughts, insights? Is there anything better for this price? I'm 6 foot 1, 86kg and well built so how heavy it is, isn't THAT BIG of a factor really.

Thanks!=)

The 190XPROB is a good choice: I've opted for the 055XPROB for the extra support strength, but it was a tough call.

The 322RC2 is a good enough ball head. I dont personally like the ball style myself, but if thats your thing, you can do considerably worse.

going the cheap route will end up costing you more in the long run as you will wind up buying 2 tripods, the first cheap one and then the more expensive one you should have bought in the beginning...been there-done that

I have to say, that using a cheap tripod was nothing but frustrating. It wasn't strong enough to really hold my camera steady, completely defeating the purpose of the tripod in the first place, and was a pain in the butt to carry around when I thought I could use it. By comparison, I actually enjoy using my Manfrotto tripod and head. It's still a pain to carry around, but well worth it knowing I'm going to have a stable shooting platform. I'd say spend the money and don't look back.

I've got a tripod that I bought about 20 years ago for like...$35, I think. It's always worked fine for me. It isn't like my camera wieghs 50lbs or something...

What do you use then? I repeat, I'm a beginner and haven't decided yet, what I suggested were merely copy pasted items.

@the rest: I agree that I should buy a good tripod to start with - what's your recommendations?

I have the Manfrotto 055XBPRO Legs that originally came in a kit with the 804RC2 Pan/Tilt Head. I quickly came to realize I don't like pan-tilt heads for the type of work I do, so I replaced it with the 322RC2 Grip action head, and it's been great for my style of shooting.
