Default Anyone ever order cheap flashes from focalprice.com?

Hi there,

Has anyone tried these? I'm thinking they might be worth a try for $12... Just as a second flash to be used with my sb400 on nikon d40. I don't imagine these throw light very far, so tempting to get one to play with

http://www.focalprice.com/DI145B/Low...ght_Black.html That's the one I am thinking of.

They also have a remote flash trigger for $5 so for $20 I may have a very cheap external flash that I don't expect much from, thoughts?

Thanks,
Rick

their products are rarely the problem. the problem is that there are numberous reviews from ppl where no product was ever received.

try dealextreme or ebay

I ran across this video by David Ziser recently he calls "Recession lighting" where he uses a very inexpensive lighting set-up like this to get some great shots.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try dealextreme for some cheap flashes and eBay for my flash extension cord.

That was a good video. I just wish I could find a place in canada to order those flashes from, shipping from a number of stores in the states is $30 for that little flash, booooo! I'll keep looking around.

Default I found this one on amazon...

Here is a similarly priced flash that I found on Amazon...
Zeikos ZE-DS12 Digital Pro Slave Flash

I'm thinking about trying it out. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Just in case it is helpful, the 10 dollar Zeikos slave flash I mentioned is a dud. The battery compartment is too tight for the batteries, so I couldn't even test it.

The 30 dollar Vivitar SF-3000 was no better. I was able to put batteries in it at least, but the flash is out of sync, no matter what preflash setting is used. On the first setting the camera catches the tail end of the flash, which brightens the picture up a little, but not to a useful degree. (I'm using a Canon 7D but my guess is that it doesn't matter what camera your using, it just doesn't work.)

So the old adage is true, you get what you pay for... or in this case less than what you paid for. Both flashes went back to B&H with a note saying "why even bother carrying these?" Next, I will test out some slave flashes in the hundred dollar range.

No kidding? The batteries don't even fit? That is true junk!

I got one for Christmas. I have been trying to use it with my Canon DSLR Rebel XT, but no luck getting it to fire. This is my first and I thought it would be a good way to start out using one of these, but I can't seem to locate any info on it other than the flash and camera manuals which aren't helpful. Maybe someone here could help?
