Default Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6

Here is the test of this new lens:Sigma AF 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM - Lab Test / Review

I think this is really an outstanding new lens, expanding the range of focal lengths of zooms for 2mm more (Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5), even though with smaller aperture. I am happy that I haven't bought any wide zoom lenses yet, even though I had a big wish. But you wont be able to mount any filters on it, I think. So, what do you think about this lens, according to that test?

I'll wait for samples. That's a HELL of a lot of vignetting (1.7 stops wide open!?), so we'll see how well that does.

ZinhaEq - Thanks for posting, I have been looking for reviews for this lens.

Well, at 8mm is hard to say what is a HELL of a lot, as there isn''t any APS-C 8mm UWA zoom lens (at least as why I know). But I'd say it will be possible to survive that amount of vignetting (although it IS very high).

I was looking for reviews of this one too - just couldn't wait to see the first reviews. But still, we should wait to see some more of them.

While youre right, there is no current 8mm lens, there is also such a thing as being too wide. I'd like to see how this lens can be used properly to provide such an exaggerated view and see how it compares to 10mm, which has become common.

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these to try, but I definitely agree with Osmosis -- 8mm is SO wide that it may be extremely hard to use one of these well. I love my 10mm, but even there it can be hard to compose well.
